Writing in Estonian: a task, an example and a review

KeelAI interface example: B1 and B2 writing

A good reply solves the task: who you are writing to, why and what you need to know.

Your first step in the app

Complete one level-based task and identify the skill to practise next.

A good reply solves the task: who you are writing to, why and what you need to know. Start with a short letter, check the meaning, then revise word forms. In KeelAI, send your text to Marko and ask for explanations of the corrections. This is practice, not official Harno marking.

What you can do

Practice task: ask about a course schedule

You want to join an evening course. Write to the organiser: name the level, ask which days classes meet and ask the price. The short example below shows a structure; it is not a complete exam response or an official word-count requirement.

  • “Tere!” — Hello. Start with a greeting.
  • “Soovin osaleda B1-taseme eesti keele kursusel.” — I would like to attend a B1 Estonian course.
  • “Millistel päevadel tunnid toimuvad ja kui palju kursus maksab?” — On which days are the lessons, and how much does the course cost?
  • “Aitäh vastuse eest! Lugupidamisega, Anna” — Thank you for your reply. Kind regards, Anna. Then write your own version without the example.

Review your text in three passes

In the official format, B1 writing lasts 35 minutes and B2 writing lasts 80 minutes. Check Harno for the task types and required length. Use the app review after making your own attempt, not instead of writing it.

  • Content: have you covered every point, and is it clear what the recipient should do?
  • Structure: do you have a greeting, a clear order of paragraphs and a suitable closing?
  • Language: are forms, tense and address consistent? Check uncertain words in a dictionary.
  • Send the text to Marko with: “Do not rewrite everything. Show three mistakes, explain them and let me correct them.” For B2, also review your arguments and how they connect.

FAQ

How can I get feedback on Estonian writing in KeelAI?

Open a conversation with Marko, send the task and your text, then ask for feedback on content, structure and a few important language errors. Check explanations against a dictionary and revise the text yourself. This is AI learning feedback, which can be wrong, not an official examiner’s grade.

Can I memorise one letter for the B1 or B2 exam?

Learn a structure and useful linking phrases, but adapt the content to the task. Check who you are writing to, what information you must give and which questions you must answer. The example on this page is a short independent exercise; use Harno for official formats and length requirements.
